Jason Beck - Head of Product - Carwow

Having accidentally attended an HTML course whilst at art college Jason's first role was as a web designer back in 1997. Having witnessed the bubble burst he has then been a part of the industry grow-up and take a seat at the top table. Currently working in the automotive sector and have previously worked in travel, education, publishing, music and recruitment. Jason has managed in-house teams across cultures and timezones, centralised and dispersed. There is no one solution to fit all.

You can only create world-class design if you have a world-class design team. And that team will only thrive in a world-class design culture.

Mariano Charquero-Mariño - UX / Product Design Consultant - Mariano Marino (Google, Tesco, William Hill)

Each industry has different users and problems, but the basics to become a design-led company are very similar for all. Understanding that solving people’s problems give the real value to a product or service, is the first step towards setting the foundation for a successful company. This is a mindset that needs to come from the top in order to be established across all sectors.

Noel Lyons - Director of Experience Design - Barclays

Jason has managed the design team at Barclays since 2015 designing experiences for the 24m customers of Barclays in the UK. Prior to joining Barclays, he was the head of the design consultancy KentLyons, working with brands such as the BBC, Channel 4, Yo! Sushi and PlayStation.

This talk will explore the evolution of the Barclays design team and the journey it took to reach today. What issues were encountered, what are the successes? How did Barclays manage to change the culture, balance and mix of skillsets? How has design helped Barclays in it's mission to become more customer-focused? It will focus on the importance of using design as a strategic tool at scale and how Barclays structured the team to reflect their customers’ mental model What is the Barclays culture, mix and diversity within the design team and what is planned for the future.
