"Serverless data pipelines at scale using Amazon managed services"

Can you migrate your classic ETL data pipelines to use Amazon serverless services, such as Glue and Athena? Should you even do it? At GumGum we just built such a pipeline at scale (20 TB a day) and the journey was full of surprises.
This talk will focus on the mistakes we made and on the limitations of such an architecture so you can learn from them.

Nicolas Monchy has recently returned to data engineering at his first company, GumGum, after a couple of years as a Data & Cloud consultant.

"Using AWS Fargate to improve lead times and quality"

At News UK we are currently undertaking a strong drive to improve the flexibility and robustness of our products and platforms. One of the areas we identified for improvement was the web front-end application for The Times and The Sunday Times. In this talk we will be discussing the reasons for choosing to use AWS Fargate, particularly around:

+ The impact on architecture
+ Changes to our environment strategy
+ Making our build and testing processes simpler and faster
+ Future enablers for blue-green deployments and more

We’ll also discuss some of the wider technology improvements we’ve been making leveraging AWS services such as Lambda and Aurora.

Andrew Raines - Principal Engineer, The Times and The Sunday Times
Andy is an experienced software engineer who has worked in companies large and small over multiple different industries. Skilled in a wide array of technologies and languages, with a particular specialism in backend systems and cloud architecture. Passionate about agile and pragmatic engineering.

Kouros Aliabadi - Engineering Lead, ECS Digital
Kouros is a passionate engineer and consultant having worked across a wide array of technologies in the last few years. Experienced in creating innovative solutions, specifically focused in the software quality space in recent years.
